Christmas Market Cooking class
‘Tis the season to be merry & bright
Bavaria is charming year-round, but perhaps no more so than during the Christmas season when town squares are once again buzzing with locals and visitors alike to enjoy the traditional Christmas markets (Weihnachtsmärkte or Christkindlmärkte as they would be called in German). With artisans selling their hand crafts, food, and drink out of gingerbread house looking huts strung up with garland and ornaments, and lit by soft warm lights, it is hard not to succumb to the Gemütlichkeit of the markets.
Through the month of December, we bring that coziness into the Werkstatt and teach you how to recreate the magic of the markets at home. Our Christmas market menu includes Schupfnudeln, which are similar to gnocchi but rolled longer, sauerkraut with bacon, and stuffed, baked apples for dessert. Of course there is a pot of Glühwein (mulled wine in English) or alcohol-free punch on the stove to sip on throughout the class. Our favorite local beers and non-alcoholic drinks are also available to enjoy for those who prefer it. This is a hands-on and immersive experience as we make the Schupfnudel dough and roll each nudel by hand, carve out and fill the apples, and learn the secrets to a perfect sauerkraut that is not too sour and just slightly sweet. Throughout the class we will also share stories and traditions of Bavaria and the holiday season here, as well as how to navigate the markets like a pro.
Before you go, we will share our Adventure Bavaria Christmas market recipe book so you can turn your own kitchen into a Christmas market for your friends and family at home.
